At the invitation of the College of Life Science and Engineering, Lanzhou University of Technology, Professor Lu Yandu from Hainan University and Researcher Lu Dong from the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, visited the "Life Science and Health" Forum at Lanzhou University of Technology and delivered academic reports. The report meeting was successfully held on June 20, 2022, from 9:00 to 11:00 am in Room 106, Building 2, Pengjiaping Campus. More than 100 full-time teachers, graduate students, and undergraduate students from the College of Life Science and Engineering participated in the forum, which was hosted by Deputy Dean Yang Mingjun.

At the beginning of the meeting, Deputy Dean Yang Mingjun extended a warm welcome to Professor Lu Yandu and Researcher Lu Dong and introduced the research directions and academic achievements of the two experts. Professor Lu Yandu shared "Technology for Light-Driven Efficient Conversion of Seawater and CO2 into High-Value Products", covering the relationship between microalgae and the global energy cycle, the balanced regulatory mechanism of "light utilization" and "photodamage" of microalgal light-harvesting antenna protein complexes, the symbiosis between corals and zooxanthellae, and the response of zooxanthellae sterol synthesis to environmental factors. Finally, Professor Lu Yandu introduced the research team and the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea where he works, expressing hope for more cooperation with teachers and students of the college in relevant fields in the future. Researcher Lu Dong's report was titled "Introduction to Heavy Ion Biotechnology". He first introduced the overview of basic and applied research on nuclear technology carried out by the Institute of Modern Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, relying on heavy ion accelerator devices. Then, mainly based on microbial models such as Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Clostridium acetobutylicum, he explained the mechanism of heavy ion radiation microbial mutagenesis and its application research in the creation of industrial microbial strains, and encouraged students to study hard and apply for master's and doctoral degrees at the Institute of Modern Physics, CAS.

After the report meeting, the two experts engaged in active interaction and exchange with the teachers and students of the College of Life Science and Engineering, providing detailed and patient answers to scientific questions of concern. Deputy Dean Yang Mingjun summarized the report meeting, pointing out that the two experts brought a wonderful academic feast to the teachers and students of the college, ranging from basic research to applied research. Through listening to the reports and exchanges, the academic horizons and scientific research ideas of the college's teachers and students were further expanded, laying a foundation for further exchange and cooperation between the two sides.
