Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP)

The Talented Young Scientist Program (TYSP) is an international mobility program funded by the Chinese government, aimed at jointly cultivating future leading scientists with other countries. The program promotes the cross-border exchange of excellent young scientists, scholars, and researchers, and fosters cooperation among research institutes, universities, and enterprises.

TYSP sponsors talented young scientists from other countries to work full-time in China with Chinese teams for a period of 6 to 12 months.




2. Partners

2.1 Chinese Partners

1. Competent Authority: Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST)

3. Host Institutes: Legal entities such as research institutions, universities, and enterprises legally established in China.

2.2 Foreign Partners

1. Recommendation Authority: The science and technology authority of the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in the applicant's country, or a designated science and technology department.

2. Foreign Institute: The organization where the applicant is employed in their home country.

3. Foreign Applicant: The individual applying for the TYSP.




3. Procedures

3.1 Stage 1: Posting of Vacancies

· Sponsorship:

Financial Support: 12,500 RMB/month (pre-tax) for 6 or 12 months.

Job Opportunity: Work with high-level international research teams to complete research tasks.

TYSP Certification: Proof of high-level research experience.

· Position Qualifications:

Non-classified (non-confidential) positions.

Non-degree education (positions are not for degree-seeking study).

Scientific research or policy research positions.

Cross-cultural and multinational teams.

· Host Institute Qualifications:

Legal entity in China: University, research institution, or enterprise.

Good working conditions.

Ability to assist international experts with necessary documents (Entry Visa, Foreign Expert Certificate, Residence Permit, etc.).

Ability to provide financial support prior to the allocation of sponsorship funds.

3.2 Stage 2: Application for Position

· Timeline:

Applications are accepted year-round.

Reviews are conducted quarterly (January, April, July, and October).

· Applicant Eligibility:

Must hold a full-time job in scientific research or policy research in their home country.

Must have over 5 years of research experience OR a Doctoral degree.

Must be 45 years of age or younger.

Fluency in English or Mandarin Chinese.

Willing to work full-time in China.

Compliance with Chinese laws, regulations, and other relevant rules.

3.3 Stage 3: Working in China

· Process necessary documents including the Entry Visa, Foreign Expert Certificate, and Foreigner's Residence Permit.

· Work with high-level international research teams to complete research tasks.

3.4 Beyond TYSP

1. TYSP Certification: Upon completion of the program, the Ministry of Science and Technology will issue a TYSP Certificate based on an evaluation of the participant's performance.

2. Project Tracking: The Executive Agency will follow up on project management to encourage continued cooperation between foreign experts and their host institutes, and to facilitate applications for bilateral intergovernmental joint research projects.
