Hainan University Overview

Hainan University is a comprehensive key university established in August 2007 through the merger with the former South China University of Tropical Agriculture. It is jointly administered by the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial People's Government. Adhering to the motto of "Openness and Inclusiveness" and the spirit of "Self-improvement, Dedication, Kindness, and Perseverance," the university has achieved significant success.

In December 2008, it was approved by the state as a key university under "Project 211." In 2012, it was included in the "Plan for Strengthening the Development of Higher Education in Central and Western China" and has successively received support from the National Basic Ability Construction Project of Western and Central China and the Project of Comprehensive Strength Elevation of Western and Central China. In 2017, the university was included in the national "Double First-Class" initiative to build world-class disciplines.

In 2018, the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and the Provincial Government made a strategic decision to fully support the development of Hainan University. In the same year, the university came under the joint administration of the Ministry of Education and the Hainan Provincial People's Government and was listed as a university directly administered by the Ministry of Education.

Hainan University undertakes the enrollment of international students in China under the China Scholarship Council (CSC). We welcome foreign students and scholars to apply for the Chinese Government Scholarship to study at Hainan University!
