On September 24, 2024, the Hainan Provincial Science and Technology Conference and Science and Technology Award Conference was held in Haikou to mobilize and deploy the province to fight a new round of tough battles for scientific and technological innovation. Feng Fei, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Provincial Party Committee Science and Technology Commission, delivered a speech. Liu Xiaoming, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Governor, and Director of the Provincial Party Committee Science and Technology Commission, presided over the meeting. Provincial leaders such as Li Rongcan, Chairman of the CPPCC Provincial Committee, and Shen Danyang, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, attended. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and President Luo Qingming, along with award-winning representatives from Hainan University, attended the conference. The meeting solemnly commended scientific and technical personnel and organizations that made outstanding contributions to scientific and technological progress and economic and social development in 2023.
The project "Integrated Technology for Light-Driven Carbon-Fixing Microalgae-Based High-Value Product Production," led by Professor Lu Yandu, won the Second Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award. This achievement was completed with the support of the National 13th Five-Year Plan Marine Economy Industrial Chain Collaborative Innovation Project "Development of Tropical Marine Microalgae High-Value Products and Demonstration of Industrial Chain Construction" and others. With technological R&D and innovation as the link, and focusing on the overall goal of R&D of "Integrated Technology for Light-Driven Carbon-Fixing Microalgae-Based High-Value Product Production," team members achieved key technological breakthroughs in multiple links such as germplasm selection, cultivation methods, and equipment design around the high quality and high value of microalgae products. Through the combined integration and promotion application of core technologies, it promoted the development of innovative functional foods and provided an important template for realizing a resource-saving, environment-friendly green development system integrating functional product production and carbon sequestration/emission reduction.
Secretary Feng Fei presented the certificate to Comrade Lu Yandu and, on behalf of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government, extended warm congratulations to all award winners and paid high tribute to the vast number of scientific and technological workers in the province. Secretary Feng Fei pointed out that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee proposed a mission statement and roadmap for advancing high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and self-strengthening by further comprehensively deepening reform. The Hainan Free Trade Port is at the forefront of reform and opening up. We must thoroughly implement the spirit of General Secretary Xi Jinping's important speech at the National Science and Technology Conference, fully recognize the strategic leading status and fundamental supporting role of science and technology, adhere to the "Four Orientations" strategic guide, consolidate existing achievements, make up for shortcomings, strengthen weak points, win the new round of tough battles for scientific and technological innovation, promote Hainan's scientific and technological innovation to stand up and become strong, and accelerate the creation of "dual highlands" for scientific and technological innovation and reform of the scientific and technological system.
