On December 1, 2023, Dr. Matthias Halwart, Head of the Fisheries and Aquaculture Division at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, was invited to visit ABB. Accompanied by Lu Yandu, Xin Yi, Dr. Marasri Ruengjitchatchawalya from King Mongkut's University of Technology Thonburi, and Dr. Mujeeb Ur Rehma, the delegation visited the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea and the Hainan Provincial Engineering Research Center for Marine Bioactives and Bioproducts.
Professor Lu Yandu introduced ABB's current research progress and ongoing work. Mr. Halwart expressed great interest in the innovative algae-based functional products that ABB is committed to developing. He emphasized that algae have always been in a relatively weak position in the global food and pharmaceutical systems. He stressed the necessity of submitting proposals regarding algae to the FAO and the Committee on Fisheries (COFI) through reasonable means to include this important species in the United Nations sustainable aquaculture system. Afterwards, Mr. Matthias Halwart shared his extensive global experience, expertise, and ideas on sustainable aquaculture. The two sides conducted in-depth exchanges on issues of common interest.
