Important Reminders:
This batch of admissions is for full-time academic degree and professional degree doctoral students. Admission methods include: General Examination, Master-Doctoral Successive Study, and Bachelor-Doctoral Direct Study. Candidates must carefully read the "Hainan University 2024 Doctoral Student Admissions Guide" and the following contents. Candidates who meet the application conditions should complete the online application and submit electronic materials strictly according to the time requirements.
Online application time for this batch: November 15 - December 15, 2023.
The Master-Doctoral Successive Study admission method is only open to eligible full-time second-year and third-year master's students of our university.
The Bachelor-Doctoral Direct Study admission method is only open to recommended students who have been accepted by our university.
Only the last application submitted for one ID number will be retained as a valid application.
I. General Examination and Master-Doctoral Successive Study
Candidates must apply online; other application methods are invalid. Please be sure to fill in and submit application information materials truthfully as required.
Online Application
Application Process: Log in to the Hainan University Graduate Admissions Online Application System, select the corresponding admission method, register, and perfect personal information and application information. Applicants for the "Hainan Education Special Plan" and "Minority High-Level Backbone Talent Special Plan" must select the corresponding plan in the system.
Special Tips:
(1) Upload a recent bareheaded clear ID photo in JPG format. Pixel width 150 * height 210, photo size not exceeding 500KB. See the online application system for other requirements.
(2) Personal information filled in online, such as name and pinyin, gender, ID number, etc., must be accurate and truthful; otherwise, admission will be affected.
(3) Degree certificate and graduation certificate numbers should be filled in with the "Certificate Number" or "School Number" stated in the certificate. If unclear, please click to fill in Example 1 or Example 2.
(4) If the institution or major of the previous education changes or is not in the system list, select "Other" and manually fill in the institution name and major name on the graduation certificate.
(5) For 2024 fresh master's graduates, under the "Education Information" column during online registration, "Master's Degree and Graduation Information" should be filled in according to the expected normal graduation information (do not fill in "No" Master's degree), and the certificate number can be filled in as "0".
(6) Modification of application information must be done within the above application period. After the online application system closes or the applicant confirms the supervisor in the system, the application cannot be submitted again.
Submission of Application Materials
Application materials are submitted in electronic form in the application system during the preliminary review stage. Applicants must convert items (2)-(14) of the following materials into a single PDF file according to the format requirements of the "Hainan University 2024 Application Materials Template for Doctoral Degree Candidates" (Click to Download) and upload it to the application system (PDF named: Candidate Name - Applied Major - Applied Supervisor - Doctoral Application Materials). Uploaded contents such as certificates, documents, transcripts, and ability proof materials must be clearly visible, and the total size of attachments should not exceed 20MB.
List of Application Materials:
(1) Registration Form for Hainan University 2024 Doctoral Degree Candidates
Generated by the application system. After submitting application information, it can be downloaded and printed; sign your name and complete the approval procedures in the corresponding columns.
(2) Personal Resume (with photo)
(3) Research Proposal (See Attachment 1 for template)
The research proposal should include the scientific problems intended to be studied, existing foundation, basic ideas, research methods, and expected goals.
(4) Valid ID Card or Military ID
(5) Academic Degree Certificates or Proof of Enrollment for Master's Students
Provide graduation certificates and degree certificates for undergraduate and master's stages; candidates who obtained degrees from foreign universities must also provide the certification from the "Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange";
Fresh master's graduates provide student ID and proof letter for fresh master's students (certificate of enrollment or student status proof) (subject to the proof template of the university, and stamped with the official seal of the relevant training department of the university graduate school, office, or department).
(6) "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report" for Previous Education
※ Candidates holding higher education diplomas graduated before (including) 2002 need to provide:
① "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report" for the undergraduate (including college-to-university and self-study examination undergraduate, etc.) stage graduation certificate. Apply via China Higher Education Student Information Network (CHSI) https://www.chsi.com.cn/;
② "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report" for the master's graduate stage graduation certificate, same method as above.
※ Candidates holding higher education diplomas graduated after 2002:
③ Should query the "Ministry of Education Student Status Online Verification Report" (for fresh graduates) or "Ministry of Education Electronic Registration Record Form for Academic Certificates" (for previous graduates) on CHSI in advance. Candidates who fail the online qualification (student status) verification should provide the above "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report".
Special Note:
The processing cycle for the "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report" is generally about 1 month, please apply in advance. If there are changes to the above, the instructions and processes of CHSI shall prevail.
(7) Candidates with only a master's degree certificate (single certificate) at the master's stage should simultaneously provide the following proof:
① Master's degree certification report. Apply using the degree certification system (https://xwrz.chsi.com.cn/gateway) on China Higher Education Student Information Network (CHSI);
② "China Higher Education Qualification Certification Report" or "Ministry of Education Electronic Registration Record Form for Academic Certificates" for the undergraduate (including college-to-university and self-study examination undergraduate, etc.) stage graduation certificate.
Special Note:
The processing cycle for the degree certification report generally takes at least 18 working days, please apply in advance. If there are changes to the above, the instructions and processes of CHSI shall prevail.
(8) Master's Course Transcript
Provide the course transcript for the master's stage, stamped with the official seal of the university-level training unit (if it is a photocopy, it needs to be stamped with the official seal of the archives management department).
(9) Master's Thesis Abstract
Include master's thesis title, supervisor, thesis abstract, and summary of innovation.
(10) Representative Scientific Research Achievements and Award Certificates
Include representative academic papers, patent applications, science and technology awards, participation in scientific research projects, etc.; various award certificates related to the doctoral application.
(11) Foreign Language Proficiency Proof Materials
Foreign language proficiency certificates, transcripts, study abroad experience proof, etc.
(12) Candidates Applying with Equivalent Academic Ability
Must provide relevant proof materials according to the requirements of the admissions guide.
(13) Candidates Applying for the "Minority High-Level Backbone Talent Plan"
"2024 Registration Form for Minority High-Level Backbone Talent Plan Candidates" signed with the Ethnic Education Division or Higher Education Division of the provincial education administrative department where they are located.
(14) Other Materials Required by the Applied College and Ability Proof Materials
(15) "Expert Recommendation Letter"
Download the blank "Expert Recommendation Letter" (See Attachment 2 for template). Provide recommendation reasons and opinions from at least two experts according to requirements (recommendation experts are generally the candidate's master's supervisor or professors (or personnel with equivalent professional technical titles) related to the applied discipline/major (field); signature must be handwritten, other contents can be handwritten or printed). The recommender must sign across the seal on the envelope. Submit during on-site (or online) confirmation.
Candidates who pass the qualification review must bring the originals and photocopies of the above application materials items (1)—(14) to the designated location for on-site confirmation procedures when participating in offline (on-site) re-examination. (Please pay timely attention to the websites of each admissions college for specific arrangements.)
Selecting a Supervisor
The list of supervisors for the first batch of admissions will be released before December 5. After the supervisor list is released, candidates can select a supervisor after submitting registration information in the system according to prompts. The supervisor will confirm acceptance of the candidate's application within the prescribed quota after reviewing the candidate's materials. If no supervisor accepts the candidate, it is considered as failing the preliminary review. Before the supervisor confirms acceptance in the system, the candidate can change the applied supervisor.
II. Bachelor-Doctoral Direct Study
Online Application
Application Process: Log in to the Hainan University Graduate Candidate Online Application System, select "Bachelor-Doctoral Direct Study" as the admission method, register, and perfect personal information and application information.
Submission of Application Materials
Applicants must convert items (2)—(6) of the following materials into a single PDF file in order and upload it to the application system. Uploaded contents must be clearly visible, and the total size of attachments should not exceed 20M.
Material List:
(1) "Registration Form for Hainan University 2024 Doctoral Degree Candidates";
Automatically generated by the system after registration is completed, no editing needed, candidate manually signs name.
(2) "Research Proposal for Applying for Hainan University Doctoral Degree"; (Please Download Attachment 1);
Fill in the understanding of studying for a doctoral degree and the research plan during the doctoral study period, etc.
(3) Original "Undergraduate Course Transcript" (stamped with the official seal of the university-level training unit's academic affairs department);
(4) One photocopy of ID card;
(5) One photocopy of Student ID;
(6) Certificate for fresh undergraduate students issued by the academic affairs department (not required for students of this university);
(7) 2 copies of "Hainan University Doctoral Student Admissions Expert Recommendation Letter"; (Please Download Attachment 2)
Please ask two professors or experts with corresponding titles to fill in recommendation reasons and opinions according to requirements, and please manually sign names.
All the above materials must be on A4 paper specifications (transcript paper size unlimited) or photocopied on A4 paper, bound along the left side in the above order, and submitted to the College Graduate Academic Affairs Office after re-examination and admission.
Selecting a Supervisor
Candidates select a supervisor after submitting registration information in the system according to prompts. The supervisor will confirm acceptance of the candidate's application within the prescribed quota after reviewing the candidate's materials. If no supervisor accepts the candidate, it is considered as failing the preliminary review.
