On July 5, 2023, the 3rd Generation Marine Biotechnology Industry Development Seminar was successfully held in Conference Room 107 of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea, Hainan University. The theme of this seminar was: Marine Biotechnology Industry Development—New Era, New Starting Point, New Development.
At the invitation of Professor Lu Yandu from SCBE, Professor Zhang Wei, Fellow of the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering and Director of the Marine Bioproducts Cooperative Research Centre (MB-CRC) in Australia, attended the meeting. Vice President Gao Diangong of Hainan University, Director Hu Jingwei of the Development Planning Department, and Deputy Director Xie Songguang of the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea attended the opening ceremony. Vice President Gao Diangong delivered a welcome speech, extending a warm welcome to Academician Zhang Wei for his visit and to all experts for their participation.
Professor Xie Songguang, Deputy Director of the State Key Laboratory, introduced the composition of the laboratory and its scientific research progress in recent years.



Subsequently, Academician Zhang Wei and Professor Lu Yandu introduced their teams' work progress in marine biorefinery and synthetic microalgae, respectively. Researcher Bao Shixiang from the Institute of Tropical Bioscience and Biotechnology, Chinese Academy of Tropical Agricultural Sciences; Professor Guo Zhiqiang from the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea; Professor Wan Yinglang from the Key Laboratory of Tropical Biological Resources Sustainable Utilization; Professor Zhou Hailong from the School of Life Sciences; and Associate Professor Zhao Qun from the College of Marine Sciences presented their research groups' progress on macroalgae, tuna, the marine mollusk Elysia chlorotica (sea slug), Litopenaeus vannamei (whiteleg shrimp), and marine crustaceans, respectively. Participants engaged in in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics of interest. Director Hu Jingwei and Researcher Xin Yi presided over the meeting sessions respectively.
