On February 10, 2023, Professor Sui Zhenghong from the College of Marine Life Sciences, Ocean University of China, was invited to visit SCBE. Researcher Xin Yi and Associate Researcher Huang Ruiping accompanied the visit to the State Key Laboratory of Marine Resource Utilization in South China Sea. The two sides conducted extensive exchanges on common research interests and expressed hope for subsequent cooperation in algal metabolic engineering, gene editing, germplasm improvement, and industry cultivation.
Professor Sui Zhenghong is a renowned expert on Gracilaria. Since 1998, she has taken the lead in researching Gracilaria lemaneiformis in China. Using molecular markers, she elucidated the molecular evolutionary relationship between Gracilaria lemaneiformis and its related species, discovered for the first time that Gracilaria lemaneiformis phycoerythrin has anti-cancer and free radical scavenging activities, and established a genetic transformation platform for Gracilaria lemaneiformis. During her research, Professor Sui has presided over and undertaken more than 20 national, international, and municipal scientific research projects. She has published more than 50 papers in famous scientific journals such as Plant Biotech. J., J Appl. Phycol., and Aquaculture, and has participated in the compilation of several monographs. Her achievements have won 5 awards at various levels, including 1 Second Prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award, 3 First Prizes and 1 Second Prize at the provincial and ministerial level.
