On the morning of June 19, the College of Life Science and Engineering and the Gansu Microalgae Engineering Technology Research Center held an external expert academic report meeting for the 22nd Qilian Academic Month, inviting Professor Lu Yandu from the College of Marine Sciences, Hainan University, to give an academic report titled "Light-Driven High-Efficiency Conversion of Seawater and CO2 into High-Value Products". More than 300 teachers and students from the college attended the report meeting.

In his report, Professor Lu Yandu explained the important role of microalgae in the global energy cycle, as well as the genetic basis, evolutionary mechanisms, and regulatory networks of high-value compound metabolism in microalgae, the development of synthetic biology technologies using microalgae as chassis, and the interaction mechanisms between single-cell organisms and the environment and remediation technologies (heavy metals, carbon neutrality). In the report, Professor Lu also combined his own development experience to encourage teachers and students to have a broad perspective, to have the breadth of mind to concentrate efforts on major tasks and sacrifice the small self for the greater good, and to be proactive and enterprising. During the interactive exchange with teachers and students, Professor Lu answered questions raised by teachers and students in detail and publicized Hainan University's graduate enrollment policy.
This report meeting is one of the series of activities of the "Qilian Academic Month" of the College of Life Science and Engineering in 2022. The holding of this academic report further stimulated students' desire for knowledge, created a good atmosphere for external academic exchange, and played a positive role in promoting scientific research among teachers and students of the college and assisting students in their postgraduate entrance exams.
