On the morning of May 17, 2025, Researcher Ou Linjian from Jinan University visited the College of Marine Biology and Aquaculture at the invitation of Associate Researcher Huang Ruiping. She delivered an academic report titled "Mechanism of Phosphorus in the Occurrence of Typical Harmful Dinoflagellate Blooms in China's Coastal Waters," attracting more than 30 faculty members and students to participate in the exchange.
Researcher Ou Linjian has been dedicated to red tide ecology research for over 20 years and has achieved fruitful results in mechanisms of harmful algal blooms (HABs), early warning models, and intelligent spatial analysis (note: "智立方空" likely refers to a specific project or methodology, translated literally as "Smart Cube Space" or similar, context implies advanced modeling/monitoring). In this report, she first demonstrated the common harmful algal bloom species in China's coastal waters. Secondly, she proposed that the formation of harmful algal blooms is the result of the interaction of physical, chemical, and biological processes. Finally, using the succession process of diatom and dinoflagellate blooms as an entry point, she analyzed the mechanism by which dinoflagellates, as K-strategists, adapt to low-phosphorus environments: extracellularly acquiring phosphorus sources through alkaline phosphatase, phagocytosis, and high-affinity transporters, and intracellularly efficiently saving and turning over phosphorus elements through dynamic balance of phosphorus reservoirs and membrane lipid remodeling. This report revealed the key role of the phosphorus cycle in marine ecosystems, elucidated the occurrence mechanism of harmful algal blooms, and enriched the theory of algal nutritional physiological ecology. These results can provide scientific support for the prevention, control, early warning, and management of harmful algal blooms, as well as marine ecological protection.

During the report, participating faculty and students engaged in lively interactions with Researcher Ou Linjian regarding their respective research fields. After the meeting, Professor Lu Yandu of Hainan University, on behalf of the College, presented Researcher Ou Linjian with a letter of appointment as an expert for the Graduate Academic Forum, expressing sincere gratitude for her contributions to academic exchange and talent cultivation. The successful holding of this academic report built a high-level academic dialogue platform for our faculty and students and injected new momentum into disciplinary innovation and talent cultivation.
